Ereb Altor was once started as the project of the guitarists of Swedish epic doom masters Isole, however, it’s much older than their main band and several of their ex-bands. And ‘project’ sounds a bit unimportant while it becomes plain obvious that this band is a product of their hearts. After lying on ice for many years that had only been predated by a time of not really getting started, they gave it another hit with a demo in 2005 and then finally this album in 2008. If you want to describe what this is all about, you actually need only one word, and that’s epic Bathory! Yes, it’s the albums “Hammerheart” and “Twilight of the Gods” which Ereb Altor have in their hearts and pay tribute to on this debut. And since no other band managed to substitute Bathory, it’s just right for Ereb Altor to do so. These guys created a blend of later Bathory and Candlemass, and the result is incredibly epic and majestic. The heavy guitars riffs crawl throughout the album like a drakkar navigating with effort in northern seas. The clean, epic, vocals, fit perfectly to the music. The whole can clearly be compared to Nordland I \u0026amp; II from Bathory, but By Honour is by no means a simple copycat of those Viking Metal classics. Doom Metal is omnipresent in this release. The riffs are much slower, more viscous, than on most other Viking Metal albums and that makes the music of Ereb Altor unique. Thus, both fans of Viking and Doom Metal are likely to love this album.","brand":"Ereb Altor","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47343508390232,"sku":"","price":4.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0637\/6727\/files\/cd_584ed4c1-38b8-4dc7-9cc5-0ee28aff6bb6.jpg?v=1737016025"},{"product_id":"ereb-altor-fire-meets-ice-cd","title":"EREB ALTOR - Fire Meets Ice CD","description":"Epic viking metal re-issue! Finally available again. We know we cannot be the only persons out there to be confused when the term ‘Viking Metal’ or variations of it are thrown around. Most of the time, viking metal simply refers to the lyrical or theatrical themes a band uses, and really doesn’t define a sound specifically. It is nice to know what to expect from a band when you read about their genre, but leaves the question open what a true viking metal band should sound like. Enter the Swedish metal band, Ereb Altor. After Ereb Altor’s fourth full length release of ‘Fire Meets Ice’. one can now say with certainty that we know what viking metal is. The album is absolutely flawless in blending genres, to the point that the only genre to describe it would be viking or even ‘Scandinavian’ metal as the band calls themselves. There are definite influences present from black metal, Bathory particularly. The black metal is so drenched in doom, while the near constant keyboard accompaniment and clean vocal harmonies really bring an epic feel to it all. The sheer tone of the album exclusively is one of adventure and unmapped terrain. It feels as if you are setting sail, probably west, into unknown waters to face unbeknownst peril. Continuing on through the album, the songwriting sets up a slow constant march, as if you’re trudging on through your hidden pain and sadness, pushed throughout the songs by the great drum and string work. The haunting yet driving elements to this album are truly what makes it so outstanding. Finally available again. Do you know Ereb Altor? If you do not let us introduce this band for you. Formed by the duo Crister Olsson (vocals\/guitars\/bass) and Daniel Bryntse (keyboards) with Tord recently helping on drums, this band from Sweden plays a majestic mixture of doom and black with an epic feeling of Viking reminiscence. Being that ‘Gastrike’ was their third full-length release so far (and their second for Napalm Records), this brought Ereb Altor to an important crossroad as normally a third release does: developing to a higher level or continuing as before. In this case, Ereb Altor seems to have fulfilled and achieved all the tasks necessary to make one step further along the path of perfection. Although it could sound haughty and perhaps out of context, this is really an awesome release. First of all, it’s one of those albums that virtually everyone could get into. Fans and followers of epic\/viking metal as well as extreme doom metal will sure find a lot to be pleased about since all of these elements (and many more) are well shown, mixed and integrated into the sound of the seven songs in it. Then you cannot deny the fact that independently from your likes, ‘Gastrike’ flows on its own, resulting in no boredom, no inconsistency, and so no pain for the ears nor brain. Every song has its own reason to exist and to be listened to. Sometimes more epic, sometimes gloomier, sometimes closer to black metal and other times more on doom metal side. In any case, everything is always well-balanced between all these aspects and features. The haunting yet driving elements to this album are truly what makes it so outstanding. Finally available again on CD. Ereb Altor is a Swedish band that was formed in 2003 by members of the epic doom metal outfit Forlorn (who have since switched their moniker to Isole). The band’s first albums were lauded for their seamless weaving of the Viking era of Bathory with traditional epic Doom Metal. With their third album, “Gastrike”, and it’s follow up, “Fire Meets Ice”, Ereb Altor abandoned the trappings of epic doom for a more black metal influenced sound. “Nattramn”, the band’s fifth full length album, released in 2015, continues in the vein of the last two, focusing on merging their epic Viking metal with cold black metal atmospherics, but overall it seems to be a darker album than before. Bathory remains the band’s largest influence, which is quite evident with the adventurous pacing, crunchy riffs and frequent epic clean vocals. It’s pretty clear at this point that Ereb Altor isn’t keen to return to the sounds of the first two albums, but the music on “Nattramn” proves that the band is really blazing their own trail. Sure, it still sounds inspired by Bathory, but it comes through revelry and nostalgia rather than copying of Quorthon. Finally available again. Bearing all the qualities that allows a band to be blessed with the word ‘Cult’ in this day and age are Swedish Epic Viking Metal band Ereb Altor. Cult not only because “The End” is just their 2nd album since initial formation back in 1990, not only that the main protagonists hail from the highly under-rated Isole, nor too that their sound is steeped in “Hammerheart”-era Bathory, but that on top of all this we have here one album of music passionate and epic enough to deserve the use of this hallowed word. Put it this way, if you worship at the altar of Viking-era Bathory, then “The End” is going to please you a lot. Songs like “Myrding”, “Vargavinter (The End Part I)” and “The Final War (The End Part III)” plod along at their own casual pace, stopping by to tick the boxes of ‘crushing’, ‘dramatic’ and ‘proud’ on their way to the creation of an album that could hardly be less fashionable despite having one foot in the Viking metal camp. With a vocal performance from Ragnar (Daniel Bryntse) which becomes increasingly Quorthon-like during the album’s 48 minutes Ereb Altor makes no bones about who their main influence is. Passionate lead and backing vocals, gentle yet strikingly profound synth accompaniment and monotonous drums (in a good way) all go into the making of the album’s best track “Myrding”, showcasing how content the band are to play music straight from the heart in strong defiance of the need to be the heaviest, fastest, slowest or most technical outfit out there. Given the true doom feel, naturally derived from Isole some of the potential Viking\/pagan metal crowd may be turned off, shocked at the absence of blastbeats, riffing speed or screaming. But let this be a lesson in history: all things Viking were birthed from this sound, and on the basis of “The End” they are continuing, albeit slowly, in a very natural and interesting direction.","brand":"Ereb Altor","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47343527821656,"sku":"","price":4.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0637\/6727\/files\/cd_c3a55c81-3879-4485-958b-8c9316c58f39.jpg?v=1737015838"},{"product_id":"ereb-altor-vargtimman-digi-cd","title":"EREB ALTOR - Vargtimman Digi-CD","description":"In the age of the Wolf Ereb Altor leads the way.
