Atmospheric Death\/Doom Metal! Gothic Death\/Doom Metal for the lost souls inspired by the gloominess of UK Death\/Doom, mysticism of Ancient Greek Cult and depression of 90’s Finnish Death Metal! The core of Asphodelus’s sound is primarily Death\/Doom Metal with a small hint of ancient Greek Black Metal piping in on a few moments. There is a jagged early 90’s feeling to the work and none of it is performed with any gloss or need for perfect takes, this absolutely helps crack the ‘code’ of what made the earliest work from their 90’s inspirations feel special and earnest. If you are a fan of this type of music no doubt you are already swimming to this new utopian island to brood and droop under its majesty, it is a niche so rarely fed with a tasteful entry. “Sculpting from Time” is an album lovingly crafted and passionately executed. Asphodelus is the brainchild of three Finnish gentlemen, of whom Jari Filppu bore the largest burden in the recording process, taking on vocals, bass, and some guitar duties. “Sculpting from Time” is attended with a sense of unfathomable, philosophical sorrow; spaciously melodic guitars. The lushness of the opener “Waterside” is exquisite and constitutes a very fine opening to a Death\/Doom Metal album. The other songs are crafted in the same way, attention to detail overpowering notions of their influences, as the early ‘90s sound is brought to life in all its crawling, complex glory. Asphodelus achieves a high level of diversity and ingenuity without either straying from their chosen paradigm or indulging in lengthy songs. Only the closing “Where Freezing Spirits Fall” ventures over seven minutes, while half of the songs are done in five, managing to pack in the riffs and aching melodies of much longer compositions within that time. What will truly bring listeners back time and again to “Sculpting from Time” is the sprawling atmosphere of the album, created and maintained by each element fitting together into a seamless display. With as much care as Asphodelus have put into their second album, appreciating the end result feels instinctive.","brand":"Asphodelus","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47344555884888,"sku":"","price":4.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0637\/6727\/files\/hhr2023-38asphodelus-sculptingfromtime.jpg?v=1697530822"},{"product_id":"bio-cancer-revengeance-digi-cd","title":"BIO-CANCER - Revengeance Digi-CD","description":"Ultimate Extreme Metal attack by Bio-Cancer, back with a Revengeance and coming to annihilate all Metal stages world wide! Bio-Cancer is an extreme thrash metal band based in Athens, Greece, formed in 2010, and was one of the leading acts in the emerging Thrash Metal scene of the early ‘10s in Greece. Since then, 2 full length albums have been released. The first one, “Ear Piercing Thrash” (2012) was released by Athens Thrash Attack Records, garnered huge attention from the global Thrash Metal scene, establishing the band’s following and got them recognized as one of the top Thrash Metal albums of the year in many lists. The second record “Tormenting The Innocent” (2015) was released by Candlelight Records and its reception was very favorable from fans and media alike. If you would begin to write these Greek speedsters off as another pseudo-crossover failure, then you are missing out on some incredibly tight and entertaining genuine Thrash Metal , written for the 21st century audience. On the front of live performances, Bio-Cancer have toured Europe multiple times, along with bands like Marduk, Origin, Immolation, Voivod etc. and have played many individual shows and festivals, in more than 30 countries around the world. In addition, Bio-Cancer has completed a month-long headline tour in China, being the first Greek metal band ever playing there. “Entertaining” really is the key word here. During the Covid-19 lockdowns and restrictions, Bio-Cancer used the downtime to complete the composition, recording and production of the 3rd full-length album. Bio-Cancer seem to fill every nook and cranny of their sound with subtle compositional devices which make a huge difference to the overall effect. A bass lick here, a drum fill there - it all adds up to a unique and memorable experience. Speaking of vocalist Lefteris; he puts on one hell of a performance here, completely balls-to-the-wall insane shrieks and a vitriolic lyrical delivery are the norm for this madman. In search of a unique style and identity, and wanting to escape from the strict old school Thrash Metal boundaries, the band created its most refined material yet. Original riffage, tuneful solos, a range of dynamics, and most importantly, a variation in pace. Death and Thrash Metal elements, combined with atmospheric and melodic parts, characterized by diverse tempos are the core parts of the 3rd full-length album, titled “Revengeance” and is by far the most mature piece of music Bio-Cancer has ever composed in 10+ years of existence. The production quality is stellar: the guitars and bass work together as one well-oiled machine, Tomek’s blast-beats are always highlighted superbly and the gang-shouts become an integral part of the compositions due to the gravitas given to them. A masterclass in Symphonic Extreme Metal, mythology, and storytelling! After the heroic actions of the Atlantean people in 3.6.2.4, those lucky enough to escape the great floods, now wash ashore on a new land. Word has now spread across the lands and seas, of those that survived. Tales begin circulating of the survivors who have won favour with the gods. These riddles from Sycophants, cause great unrest, and set in motion chaos and destruction. Out of fear, the seal on Pandora’s box is removed in the hope of bringing some balance of power on earth. Meanwhile, the greed and desire of humanity, causes catastrophic consequences, bringing forth destruction so devastating, the Ghosts Of Atlantis travel to the Three Pillars once again, to open a portal. Riddles Of Sycophants is a collection of stories featuring many known, and lesser-known characters from across different mythologies. The tales within the album take inspiration from various nations’ folklore. The album starts with the Atlanteans, led by the elders of knowledge, locating the great Titans. Once found, they all proceed to march into a new world, a world turned upside down by the chaos of what has come before. These lands are a far cry from the sandy and trusted underfoot of home, this new land is covered with snow and danger, traversing is looking impossible. It is here that the ghosts once again join them, and battle through the harshest of terrains, and dangers. Having now travelled through the portal, the Ghosts witness the opening of Pandora’s box, and see the chaos now unfolding across the many realms. Kings turn to cannibalism, sand to snow, mythical creatures from other realms are beginning to appear, and the gods have become enraged. Word begins to spread of a Mythical winged woman that can erase the past, whilst all the time, Sycophants, with gilded tongue, seek to influence the highest of royalty. For the people to leave this all behind, they must seek shelter behind a great wall, whilst knowing they will be unable to ever pass back through. There is a great deal of anxiety and despair, yet they know, to survive, they must leave all they know behind. The final chapter is the title track for the album, here the Ghosts have grown tired of the choices of the Atlantean people. The survivors are now confused and afraid, after a meeting with the Alkonost, they choose to lead the clans behind the wall, despite words of caution. The album closes with the Ghosts leaving this realm, and travelling to new horizons of Green Lands and Kings, leaving the Atlantean survivors in their new land.","brand":"Ghosts Of Atlantis","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47352314233176,"sku":"","price":1.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0637\/6727\/files\/preview_0e6e9bb9-0797-4edf-9732-90d078199d89.jpg?v=1697630284"},{"product_id":"grinder-dawn-for-the-living-cd","title":"GRINDER - Dawn For The Living CD","description":"Originally released in 1988 and a forgotten German Speed Metal classic! Germany was home to many Thrash bands throughout the past 30 years. We have seen acts such as Exumer, Darkness, Mekong Delta, Deathrow, and Paradox leave an everlasting impression. However, one group was sadly ignored from the pack. This group was Speed\/Thrash band Grinder. Grinder released “Dawn For The Living” on No Remorse Records (the label that brough us Blind Guardian) in 1988. What we have here is a mixed sound taking hints from early German speed metal classic debuts from Helloween, Running Wild, Blind Guardian, and so forth mixed in with a true Thrash sound (not to argue those former albums aren’t Thrashy). Overall it would just be easier to label this one as Thrash as it contains many more elements than those formers do. Grinder makes it absolutely work here and the outcome is great giving us a unique album that dodges the repetitive issue within Thrash by miles. There are several things we really like about this release, one certainly being the production. It’s pretty top notch for a late 80’s release and has the intensity and raw sound that Thrash needs, while not sounding overly clean like a lot of early 90’s releases did. The variety here is what really makes this album. There aren’t any songs here that sound typical, instead we get some unexpecting twists and turns, great buildups, interesting slow sections, catchy choruses, original solo’s, and so on. Truly this one would be easy to call real Speed\/Thrash It has a lot of melodic moments and several early Blind Guardian comparisons, but for the most part it’s still totally in your face and catchy as hell. Grinder would go on to get Thrashier with their next releases and would leave the speed elements behind, though it’s hard to say if they were better writing material like this than their later stuff.","brand":"Grinder","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47355943289176,"sku":"","price":7.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0637\/6727\/files\/preview_e4d768be-8efd-452d-bf6f-a125ee9a9645.jpg?v=1697702466"},{"product_id":"grinder-dead-end-cd","title":"GRINDER - Dead End CD","description":"Originally released in 1989 and a forgotten German Speed Metal classic! By the year 1989 Thrash had exploded. Most of the territory was explored and new albums were simply an improvement of older bands; originality was scarce. Not that it mattered, because nobody at that point listened to new Thrash bands to hear something original. Right? Wrong. At least according to Grinder, who not only managed to create awesome headbangable metal, but also came up with an original sound. There are several things we really like about this release, one certainly being the production. For fans of Enslaved, Vintersorg and Borknagar! Jord is an atmospheric Black Metal band with Blackgaze and post rock influences founded in 2020 as a one-man project by Jurg. Based in Sweden the inspiration came from northern nature, folk lore, mysticism, a man’s relation to this part of the earth and bands like Alcest, Enslaved, Anathema and Russian Circles. Two albums were released by Northern Silence Productions, “Sol” in 2021 and “Måne” 2022. Jord transformed into a trio in late 2022 and the new demo songs got attention from Hammerheart Records. A few months later a full studio recording of the third album ”Tundra”, in this new band setting, was done. “Tundra” tells the stories about ancient gods, dark and terrifying beings from Swedish folk lore mixed with modern day power struggles. There is a sand grain of truth to every story however old it may be. Jord uses these old mythologies to give a hint about today’s problems with authorities, mind control and delusions. ORO was born beneath the Kilsbergen mountains, in the shadows of the deep forests that swathe those rocky slopes in 2014 and in the brief years of their existence they have forged a sound like no other. A towering, crushing magnificence is wrapped in coils of poignant intimacy and the fact that the band choose to sing in their native tongue only adds to the grim beauty of these powerful songs. And now Swedish Post Metal\/Sludge quintet is back with a crushing new album infused with incredible dynamics; deft, poetic contrasts between passages of soft beauty and granite heaviness. From the moment that it begins, it is abundantly clear that ORO have created something very special with their second album, Vid Vägs Ände. It is one of those albums that defines the soul of its creators, displaying the absolute essence of all that makes ORO such a potent, unique entity. From the stately power of unstoppable opening track ‘Arvet \u0026amp; Tystnaden’ onwards the sustained quality is simply remarkable, with one breathtaking, towering peak leading to another and another. There is such a lyrical musicality about these songs that each individual shift from one chord to the next feels perfect in its tone and timing. The echoing notes that introduce ‘Bältad’ seem to attune themselves to the beat of your heart, the pulse of your blood, drawing you gently but inexorably into its embrace. And then cracks open up beneath your feet and you are tumbling down into vast chasms of sound, leaving you lost in the darkness...only for a gloriously melodic refrain to arrive and lift you up once more on its muscular shoulders. Each song on “Vid Vägs Ände” has this scope, each one an enveloping world, an utterly consuming experience that makes the album as a whole exhausting and exhilarating in equal measure. The waves of riffs and drums that crash over you, the searing sadness that hangs like mist in the air - all these elements have been given vibrant life by the stunning production and mix by Jakob Linnér and the mastering skills of Tony Lindgren (Enslaved, Insomnium, Katatonia), the sound so warm, rich and textured you want to grasp it in your hands. The final seal of quality has been applied to “Vid Vägs Ände”’s magnificent blend of post-metal, doom and sludge by the album’s haunting cover art, which is rife with questions and intrigue.","brand":"ORO","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47379782664536,"sku":"","price":1.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0637\/6727\/files\/preview_c3c8be19-5306-473e-8ca3-0e22038d8523.jpg?v=1698221261"},{"product_id":"roots-of-the-old-oak-the-devil-and-his-wicked-ways-digi-cd","title":"ROOTS OF THE OLD OAK - The Devil And His Wicked Ways Digi-CD","description":"Enter the dark realm of Roots of the Old Oak, old school UK Pagan Death\/Doom Metal! Doom style with thick, lumbering grooves overlaid by growls of demonic possession and wicked black chants! Runemagick is much more doomed and extreme than a few years ago, and this is the doomiest they have ever been. The music is just as minimalistic as the booklet: produced very roughly, the creeping guitar riffs, the occasionally interspersed leads as well as the booming bass and the percussion hammering over long distances in slow motion form an abysmally evil brew, to which the occult lyrics, which are presented in the form of hateful grunts, crown the crown. The dark occult chants which emanate from the five tracks on Runemagick’s “Envenom” pummel the listener with blunt force. The monstrous tones of “Vultures” resonate with the enormous, deeply sustained bass notes from Emma Karlsson that give this trio a distinctly evil sound. Nicklas Rudolfsson handles the guitar and vocal duties for the group, placing melodic, single-note melodies over Karlsson’s bass work when applicable, and at other times opting for a hammering chugging attack. Daniel Moilanen plays simple beats with a lot of start atop action and this technique suits the music of Runemagick very well. He places appropriate fills without overplaying and this is a key ingredient in the group’s overall sound. Runemagick stays within the bounds of their chosen style, but they always try something new within those bounds, and for such a prolific band to keep challenging themselves is a real achievement, not to mention a treat to hear. Envenom is a wonderfully old-fashioned, extreme death doom record, that also experiments with influences from other areas, which gives the music its own character. It is really successful in terms of songwriting and craftmanship and has its own touch. Sadism started in 1988 in Santiago, Chile. Founded by the current members Juan Pablo Donoso and Ricardo Roberts, with the aim of achieving a true and passionate band influenced by the Thrash and Death metal tendencies of that time, styles that reflected their feeling about music. After their first live shows the motivation was big enough to work on the first studio records, the demos: “Perdition of Souls” (1989) and “From the Perpetual Dark” (1991) consolidating Sadism as one of the biggest Metal bands in their country. In 1992 the first album from Sadism called “Tribulated Bells” was released and it was considered one of the most important albums in their national scene and the first one of its kind in Chile. This album quickly became a “must have” for many metal fans worldwide and therefore a classic because of its its relevance. In the 1990’s Sadism toured Chile and other South American countries, and played many shows as support act to bands as Kreator, Sodom, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, among others. During the 2000’s , Sadism continued their activities and work, making music and recording albums, achieving one of their most important albums in 2014, “The Ocularis Domination” which was rated by the media in South America and Europe as one of South America’s best extreme Metal albums ever. With Their seventh album “Alliance” in 2015, Sadism realized and self-managed one of their ultimate goals; to carry out their first tour in Europe with renowned festivals and on prominent metal stages, which they continue to do until now. Sadism considers it a milestone in their career to reach album #10, entitled “Obscurans” that will certainly mark a new stage in the band’s 33 years of non-stop activity. “Obscurans” is the creation of a work process that started in July 2022, until the album was finished in the studio in February 2023.","brand":"Sadism","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47380938228056,"sku":"","price":7.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0637\/6727\/files\/preview_1_0ffcfe0e-7457-4a6e-b526-7d5ffed05c2a.jpg?v=1754557041"},{"product_id":"sammath-grebbeberg-digi-cd","title":"SAMMATH - Grebbeberg Digi-CD","description":"“Grebbeberg”: a battle put into audio-hell by Sammath, extreme Metal becomes more epic than before! A fitting title for an album showing Sammath at its peak. 30 years of experience in songwriting comes together in a perfect storm. Like a war hammer to the head, “Grebbeberg” is Black Metal which beats you into submission. It simultaneously provides the soundtrack to battle preparation and the triumph of victory in battle, all in a very ugly way. Sammath started out as a Black Metal band formed by Jan Kruitwagen by the end of 1993, after Jan moved from Australia back to The Netherlands. Jan was very much inspired by 80’s Thrash and Australian metal. The first demo “Zwaardbroeders bij de Bergengte” (Brothers of the Sword at the Mountain Pass) came out in 96 and lead to German Folter Records signing Sammath. The first album “Strijd” (Battle) was unleashed in 1999. In 2001 Sammath developed into a live band, bassist Ruud Nillesen joined at this point. Since then, five more albums have been released and many live shows were played. Sammath signed to Hammerheart Records in 2013 and released the furious “Godless Arrogance” album. Soon after, in 2016, Wim van der Valk (Inquisitor, Centurian) joined the band on drums and Sammath turned into the powerful three-piece war machine it is today. All in the band started to play a larger role in arrangements of the music. After the release of the second album on Hammerheart “Across the Rhine is only Death” well received live shows in Germany, Serbia, Romania and Russia took place. Tristitia is another gem from the glorious epoch of Holy Records and these recordings possess a superior, totally personal and theatrical sound full of magic and nostalgia. The whole concept of this band is able to place you somewhere in the Middle Ages, mocking crazy inquisitors and trying to escape from witch hunt. Sadly Tristitia wasted a lot of its potential and it remained in the shadows, but maybe that is where they belonged anyway. Though Tristitia is considered a Blackened Doom band, musically there are no obvious Black Metal elements, but the term refers to the atmosphere, the anti-Christian lyrics and the few high-pitched vocals which differentiate it from the typical Doom sound. By the sound of a Gregorian chant accompanied by rhythm guitars one is immediately transferred within the walls of an ancient dark abbey, where suspicious monks disguise and obscure macabre crimes. One could think of the Italian medieval sounding band La Reverdie for a similar mystical feeling. The production with its resonance, and a good amount of reverberation on the drums, creates a sensation as if a group of heretics has conquest an old cathedral and uses it to practice reversed rituals and to unleash its blasphemous anti-Christian preaching. Pretty unique and intriguing atmosphere even if it might feel pretentious to some. The material is very rich in ideas and thoughtful changes. This is a different approach to Doom with lots of lead melodies and classical influences drenched to gothic romanticism. The riffs are inventive, dark and melancholic, original and instantly pleasurable to the ear. There is nothing similar to Tristitia so it is difficult to describe it perfectly but certainly each listener will get unique images and feelings from it.","brand":"Tristitia","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47385293783384,"sku":"","price":39.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0637\/6727\/files\/preview_17_4bc2ee15-3152-4155-8303-448644aa16bf.jpg?v=1698323994"},{"product_id":"tristitia-crucidiction-digi-cd","title":"TRISTITIA - Crucidiction digi-CD","description":"Tristitia blends Gloomy Darkness into classic Doom Metal like no has done before... or after. Crucidiction is another gem- album from the glorious epoch of Holy records and the peak recording of a band that possesses a superior, totally personal and theatrical sound full of magic and nostalgia. The whole concept of this band can place you somewhere in the Middle Ages, mocking crazy inquisitors and trying to escape from witch-hunt. This album along with the first one, is the best you can get from them. From the very first moment of the intro, the atmosphere is stunning. By the sound of a Gregorian chant accompanied by rhythm guitars you’re immediately transferred within the walls of an ancient dark abbey where suspicious monks disguise. The production with its resonance, and a good amount of reverberation on the drums, creates a sensation as if a group of heretics has conquest an old cathedral and uses it to practice reversed rituals and to unleash its blasphemous anti-Christian preaching. The constantly busy and highly creative Luis Galvez is a guitar virtuoso and master in riff craft, soloing and acoustic arpeggios and this album is maybe his top moment. With a defining delay effect applied upon his dreamlike leads and dual harmonies, he recounts dark medieval tales, and penetrates sealed crypts and dark dungeons. The material is very rich in ideas and thoughtful changes. The music doesn’t borrow from old Candlemass but maybe it shares a similar eerie aura. This is a different approach to Doom with lots of lead melodies and classical influences drenched to gothic romanticism. The riffs are inventive, dark and melancholic, original and instantly pleasurable to the ear. On top of that, the epic vocals of Thomas Karlsson sound sinister and fit perfectly with the whole concept. The music is very Doom laded whereas the vocals and lyrics are where the blackness lies. The album is recommended to Black Metal fans who are interested in breaking into the Doom scene as well as die hard Doom fans.","brand":"Tristitia","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47385303351640,"sku":"","price":7.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0637\/6727\/files\/preview_20.jpg?v=1758537245"},{"product_id":"tristitia-the-last-grief-digi-cd","title":"TRISTITIA - The Last Grief Digi-CD","description":"Tristitia blends Gloomy Darkness into classic Doom Metal like no has done before... or after. Tristitia is one of those bands that live up to their name and make little compromise. Beside all the acoustic and choral chanting, we have good to amazing guitar solo parts that last just long enough to connect the listener to the gloomy atmosphere. The instrumental execution is impressive, drumming sounding very authentic and energetic, with a little echo internalized, adding to the atmosphere. The production is a step up from the band’s first two releases. The guitars are heavier and more threatening on this release then on any other effort to date. The faster (old school Slayer speed) riffs are towards the end of the album. They are incredibly tight and fit well. Luis still lulls the listener into a trance with the bands trademarked ponderous acoustic passages and long, drawn out harmonizing guitar dirges. As with all the bands releases, sustain, is used whenever possible. The vocals are nothing short of outstanding from start to finish. The vocalist has an incredible range and if you listen you can hear his harmonized vocals when they are utilized. This is a decent album with a good mix of fast to slow speeds and it’s definitely one of the bands better releases by far!","brand":"Tristitia","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47385307644248,"sku":"","price":7.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0637\/6727\/files\/preview_22.jpg?v=1698324336"},{"product_id":"tristitia-garden-of-darkness-digi-cd","title":"TRISTITIA - Garden Of Darkness Digi-CD","description":"Tristitia blends Gloomy Darkness into classic Doom Metal like no has done before... or after. On Garden of Darkness, the Swedes are once again celebrating a doom death variant characterized by deep dreariness and sacred gloom. The organ intro seems to drag you straight into the depths of black metal hell, but this depth becomes peaceful in the end where an acoustic guitarist plays to anoint your wounds with serenity. They do not always go to work ultraheavy, but also rely on fragile-looking melodies carried by acoustic guitars, which break to light like delicate plants through the few gaps in the monumental overall sound. The songs itself are of a heartbreaking beauty and breath a great doom feeling. However, Garden of Darkness is dominated by Doom of the more viscous variety, which should appeal to all those for whom My Dying Bride still sounds much too cheerful. It does not seem as if some Fol\/Pagan Metal artist would have ever done this considering the limitations of the style. However, Andreas Hedlund has taken Folk Metal in an extremely progressive direction both musically and lyrically. The songs are all based on modern scientific ideas and advancements that include complexity, expansion, and relative perspective: microcosms and macrocosms. With these eccentric topics comes some very interesting instrumentation and arrangments. There is a blend of Pagan\/Folk metal with electronics, theatrics, and peculiar meloldies that accentuate each song in a grand way. If not for the subtlety of it all, it would come off cheesy, but Vintersorg have not stressed the folk element in such a form that makes you laugh. Some may look sideways at this music, but true originality will often make you stretch your mind to grasp it. For specific tracks, “The Thesis’s Seasons”, “A Sphere in a Sphere (To Inifinity)”, and “Curtains” are the tracks that stand out the most. However, each song has it’s own uniqueness. You won’t find that every song sounds the same as many bands of this background. Each song has several catchy phrases and melody lines that will stick in your head. It’s definitely not a “true” album, but if progress helps to advance the genre out of static isolation, then you will definitely want to check this album out. As with the previous album “Solens Rötter”, the lyrics are all in Swedish. This was the first of a planned four-album concept series based on the elements. The advertising text in 2011 from Napalm Records promised, that Vintersorg will allow you to glimpse back at the past while you are listening to the new record “Jordpuls”. So they are promising, that stylistic elements of their first records will be combined with those of the later ones (for instance “Cosmic Genesis”). To be specific, that means that Vintersorg is supposed to combine the catchy and folky parts of their first records with the progressivity of the later ones, but did the record achieve that? The balancing act between progressivity and the touch with nature seems to be quite difficult, as they have to catch the calamity of nature and combine that with quick-tempered progressivity. The result of this balancing-act seems to be really good, as the progressive passages could resemble brash phases of nature (such as storms). To be more exact, the compositions are more catchy than those of “Cosmic Genesis” without losing much raffinesse. The progressive phases are generating a multilayered record, which draw a line from “Jordpuls” (or “Till Fjälls”) to “Cosmic Genesis”. Another element that has increased again are the clean vocals, although Andreas Hedlund still manages to switch between those and harsh growls from one second to another. In addition they are using synthesizer sounds repeatedly, as well as sounds from flutes and other folky instruments, to resemble the touch with the nature. The orchestration and clean vocals are therefore creating a good atmosphere. “Jordpuls” is a great Vintersorg record, as fancy melodies and arrangements are again widely available. First time on vinyl! Deluxe 180 grams gatefold LP. It seems some were lost when Vintersorg took his brief foray into progressive territory in “Visi-ons from the Spiral Generator” and “The Focusing Blur”. While “Jordpuls” was a bit of a “back to the roots” album. “Jordpuls” is undeniable folk metal in a similar vein as his early records, and well done at that, but it didn’t seem like he was actually 100% comfortable in it. While some progressive qualities remained (as do they here), I got the feeling his spirit yearned to delve deeper into the progressive complexities that were semi-abandoned in that record. “Orkan” is in the same vein as “Jordpuls”, but Mr. Vintersorg finally seems at home in his folk metal roots again. What makes “Orkan” stand out is its consistency. While “Solens Rötter” and “Jordpuls” are great albums, each one had a glaringly excellent high-light that made the rest of the album seem a bit weaker by comparison. “Orkan” embodies folk metal as it should be, in our opinion. Vintersorg has a true knack for forging catchy vocal lines - even in his progressive era, there are vocal hooks galore, and “Orkan” contains no shortage of them. “Orkan” rains down one of the catchiest choruses in Vintersorg’s history with competitively catchy verses. The folk melodies are also catchy and embody the persona of forests and oceans, as they should - not just in the title track, but the entire album. While I believe the folk metal instrumentation has really been kicked up on “Orkan” when com-pared to some of his previous albums. The vocals are so excellent, it’s official: Andreas Hedlund can seriously sing. Furthermore the solos are always superb. Songs like “Istid” and “Polarnatten” have nothing less but solos of the highest quality; there’s a folky aura to them that beckon the energies of the hurricane in themselves. It is also worth noting that though this album is predominately black-influenced folk metal, the progressiveness of Vintersorg’s mid-era lunges forth occasionally. Though the riffing remains fairly simple, the rhythms still alternate and change as expected in progressive metal in several songs.“Orkan” is the second part in a planned elemental quadrilogy; its immediate predecessor, “Jordpuls”, (the element of earth) began the quadrilogy.","brand":"Vintersorg","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47395427811672,"sku":"","price":19.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0637\/6727\/files\/preview_7_033e7726-f857-4082-8452-ba02e42f21bd.jpg?v=1748519059"},{"product_id":"vintersorg-orkan-gatefold-lp-transparent-blue-vinyl","title":"VINTERSORG - Orkan LP (Transparent Blue Vinyl)","description":"Classic Folk\/Black Metal goes progressive! Vintersorg provides some of the best vocals we have ever heard. His Black Metal rasps and growls are top notch, sure, but his clean singing voice is downright amazing. Powerful, harmonious and melodic. Divine, striking and beautiful. On this album in particular he switches back and forth between a light section of music with his beautiful singing voice, and heavier sections with the black, rasped growl and heavy cries. The music in itself is outright brilliant, also. For this album he has revived the catchiness of his early era. Very melodic song structures littered throughout with heavy, blackish riffs and darker sections that contrast perfectly with Vintersorg’s voice and the other, lighter sections of the music. There are some odd time signatures and unique song structures that provide some atmosphere and ambiance, and we can honestly say we can’t find a single flaw in the composition of this album. The result is an album with little to no fillers, songs that grab your ears and say “no, you must listen!” and must be listened to over and over to hear all the subtleties and intricacies.
