Cemetery Skyline has the right idea of what goth “should be,” despite misconceptions. Goth, as a subculture, is many things; each of its moving parts creates a cohesive whole, representative of the band’s album, Nordic Gothic. This exhilarating sonic experience takes listeners on a full-length journey, as the greats intended. Where there is The Cure and Siouxsie And The Banshees, there is also Dream Theater and King Diamond (argue with the wall…they are goth TO ME) with their big heavy metal guitars. However, if you don’t think King Diamond is goth, look at his stage makeup and get back to me. The cool thing about really heavy alternative subgenres is they all blend together, allowing audible masterpieces like Nordic Gothic to exist without restraint.
