SORCERER – In The Shadow Of The Inverted Cross CD
The Swedish epic doom outfit, Sorcerer, formed in 1988 and released two well-received demos. Shortly thereafter, bassist Johnny Hagel left to join Tiamat, and the members of Sorcerer parted ways. In the band's absence, John Perez of Solitude Aeturnus released both of the band's demos on CD and helped keep the Sorcerer name alive. In 2010 Hagel and original vocalist Anders Engberg assembled a new Sorcerer lineup to play some festivals. With two original members and some new blood, Sorcerer was reborn and ready to record new material.
The best material on In the Shadow of the Inverted Cross sets the bar pretty high, and while the band may not always reach these heights, the album as a whole is a near-perfect release. This album is epic doom at its finest, and I highly recommend it to fans of this style. In the Shadow of the Inverted Cross is sure to be one of my favorites this year.
