Týr’s epic Viking Metal classic “Ragnarok” for first time on vinyl! Hail to the hammer!

Týr’s third album “Ragnarok” is another strong offering of progressive metal that expands on the sound of “Eric the Red”. The songs are more ambitious and progressive, but the band never loses the catchy melodies and heavy riffs that made their earlier material so enjoyable.

Their Faroese influences and Viking themes are still present, but they feel natural rather than gimmicky.

The guitars are easily the highlight of the album, shifting between melodic passages, crushing riffs and more technical Progressive Metal sections.

Tracks like “The Hammer of Thor” and “Ragnarok” show just how well Týr can combine heaviness with beautiful melodies. The drums also sound powerful throughout,
giving the heavier songs plenty of impact. Heri’s vocals are excellent as always, with his huge voice giving every chorus a strong presence. The backing vocals add even more to the epic feeling, making some of the songs sound like they were made for a massive crowd.

“Ragnarok” was a great step forward for Týr, combining Progressive Metal, Folk Metal and traditional Faroese influences into a sound that feels distinctly their own. It may take a few listens to fully appreciate, but it is well worth the effort.
